Does This Sound Familiar?

“Hey – how was your day?”

“Yeah – much of a muchness really – what you get up to today?”

“Nothing out the ordinary – school run, Mum’s place – the usual”

“Hey, I nearly forgot – have you done the bookkeeping?”

“How many times do I have to tell you – it’s your business – you do the bookkeeping”

“Here we go again – we agreed that you would do the bookkeeping from day one”

“No we didn’t – YOU agreed that I would do the bookkeeping from day one – I’ve never wanted to do it”

“But when am I going to get the time to do the books – I’m out working all day”

“That’s right – and I’m at home sitting around doing nothing all day aren’t I?”

“I didn’t say that”

“Then what are you saying?”

“I’m just saying that you’re home heaps more than I am, that’s all”

“I’m home heaps more than you are, am I?”

“Of course you are”

“Ok – let’s run through my day today – school run for the kids – then I went shopping for groceries – then I dropped in to Mum’s to help her with her chores – then I helped out with school lunches – then I picked up some scripts for your folks and helped your Mum with her washing – then back to school for the kids – then footy AND swimming practice drop off and pick up – then home to get dinner ready – yeah, I’ve been sitting around here doing nothing all day, haven’t I?”

“Ok – ok – but why should I be doing the bookkeeping – I don’t know the first things about this stuff”

“And I do? I’d never looked at accounting records in my life before you started your business”

“Yeah, but you’re better at this sort of stuff than I am”

“Better? The only reason I’m better is ’cause I’ll actually try and do it – here’s an idea – the computer’s over there – do the bookkeeping yourself”

“I’m too tired to even think about doing the bookkeeping”

“You’re too tired? Are you catching up with the guys tonight”

“You know tonight’s catch up night”

“Here’s an idea – tell them you need to miss tonight’s catchup so that you can get your bookkeeping done”

“Go to Hell”

“You go to Hell”

“I don’t have to listen to this – I’ll see you later”

“Don’t wake me up when you get home”
